Short-form video has become an incredibly powerful marketing tool since its popularity boomed in 2020. 60% of people who watch short videos online almost watch the whole thing. However, the worrying statistic is that the average watch time is 8 seconds. This means you have to grab people's attention quickly when you want to sell them something. Long gone is your 30-second elevator pitch, now you have to make bigger and bolder impressions in a shorter space of time! But how do you even achieve this?

Well, you just can't. Let's be real here: One eight-second video isn't going to tell the full story of why your brand is the best in the business, and in the same way they make movie sequels you have to make more than one video to be able to fully sell your brand and what it is you do and why you do it well.

There are tons of ways to do this. You could create a series of videos that explain each of your products or services. You could even create fun characters that show how your business works and how well you treat your customers. Or, you could make videos that simply answer common questions, which helps people decide to buy from you faster. The bottom line? You need to be making videos.

I know that the immediate thought of having to create multiple videos can be quite daunting and overwhelming, especially if you are a small business or a freelancer, but it doesn't need to be. Some amazing (free) online tools can help to cut down your task in half! Visla can take a long-form video and break it down into smaller 1-minute videos for you to post onto platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Visla is a super easy and user-friendly platform that can take 20 minutes to learn and then you are off!

Once you are up and running, you will be able to create lots of engaging videos that will draw in your target audience! However, you cannot rely just on video content as a content strategy. Although it is the most powerful form of content strategy, you must also balance this out with the use of photography and graphics to help inform, educate and resonate with your audience. Let your followers feel like they are a part of the journey with a behind-the-scenes video, create a gallery from an event your company went to, and educate them with your core values in an infographic.

Creating the content is great, but the context of your content is THE most important part. When considering what you want to talk about with your audience, be careful not to add to the online fatigue that already exists. If you are not familiar with online fatigue, you can read about it in one of our blogs about how to approach planning your content.

To avoid online fatigue, you need to create engaging content to stand out above others. Ogle has some controversial methods and one of these is a simple content type that helps to make sure you bring in the right audience that is interested in your product or service.

Repelling content.

While the thought of creating content that pushes away potential customers sounds counterproductive, it is a great method for businesses to do two things. One, it makes you stand out and potentially makes your brand look a little exclusive, But also, small businesses don't have time for time-wasters. So, creating a video for " The top 5 reasons you shouldn't work with us" might be a bold move, but you set the boundaries and expectations for your customers before they commit, and the ones contacting you are going to be informed about their service and what it is you do.
