What we are leaving behind in 2024 as Marketers

Marketing sets trends, and we use them to create new and exciting experiences for consumers, whilst helping our clients gain potential leads. However, there comes a time when Marketers have to re-assess what's in and what's out. When we aren’t in the loop on what's hot or not, we risk creating campaigns with no attraction, no flare, and no leads for our clients. So it’s time to say goodbye to these trends in 2024 and welcome in some fresh new perspectives.

Corporate Sass

Don’t get me wrong, we all love when big companies get sassy and begin cussing each other out. But now is the time to reign it in. It’s not so much companies having sass but it's showing companies being cringe!

We are all for bringing a face or a personality to a brand but being a bratty teenager is just not going to cut it anymore. It was funny, but now it just looks like you don’t have a strategy.

Instead of trying to go viral by being funny, focus the personality of your brand on being insightful or uplifting the community you are building. Celebrate their wins, Laugh with them, and engage on a deeper level than just attaching a meme to a unique situation only the guys in your office will understand.

AI Generated Content

AI generators are helpful and sometimes a lifeline for small companies and freelancers to create mass content in a short space of time. However, AI generation is not completely foolproof and can make your work appear less authentic and amateur.

Try to cut back where you can and instead of creating loads of content with surface-level engagement focus on creating fewer, and more authentic pieces of content that resonate with your audience better. You are going to get more interest when your potential customers can relate to you rather than have to listen to you.

‘False’ Content

By ‘False’ Content we mean overly curated content. You want your content to feel natural and authentic where you can, this just makes you more human. Many influencers have become obsolete by creating content that looks and feels fake and completely staged. By creating a simulated environment rather than being themselves, they have alienated their audience making them feel like ‘others’.

Try not to isolate yourself or your audience from what you want from the community. Create opportunities to interact with your audience as much as possible - create newsletters, polls, and comment on replies. Keep your focus on your community and they will help you grow.

Nostalgia Marketing

We all grew up with memorable TV adverts that stick in our memories forever. We have seen a rise in a return to many of those ads to market products and services by revamping the original advert or using it as inspiration and a nod to the original in some way. While we love to reminisce on the past, this is doing nothing for your marketing strategy and is preventing you from moving into the future.

Look at current trends and pop-culture references, and use Social Media like TikTok to help influence what is going to help you be relevant today, and not in 2003.

Death by Subscription

You want to research a topic and you find a good credible website to access the information. But wait, do you have to subscribe? AGAIN?!

Don’t get me wrong, from a business perspective subscription lists help to generate potential leads. But many people are turned off when they have to constantly provide information for very minor things. Try to assess if what you are offering needs a subscription. A great way to use Subscriptions without overwhelming your audience is just a simple newsletter. 1 newsletter that can provide discounts, updates, special offers, and other VIP-style treatments that people would be willing to give you their email for.

Marketers become complacent and can get very stuck in their ways. It’s our job to evolve alongside the advancements we make and ensure we are ready and prepared to apply these to our strategies as well as strategies for our clients.
